Description
Trapping Hammers are a key tool in any serious trappers kit bag. In the days of gin traps no trapper would be without their hammer or ‘setter’ as it’s sometimes called in Australia and the USA. Even with today’s modern traps a good hammer is a great asset.
Although these hammers weren’t made as trapping hammers they are the closest to the old patterns that I have seen in a long, long time. As well as being used to knock in pegs to secure a trap, the hammer has a rear blade which is used for clearing a space to site a trap and to rake a flat area to bed the trap in. The notch in the blade serves as a ‘chain pull’ to remove the peg from the ground.

Just under 11 inches long, with a 7.5 inch head. Flat hammer face, 2.25 inch wide scraping blade.
Weight 820g. English made with a hickory handle.
